Philadelphia based hip-hop outfit Writtenhouse is an incendiary band which ignites crowds with their dynamic sound and intense stage presence. Their approach to music is a crystalline focus on innovation and creative ingenuity while filling venues with their full, rich sound. Their music has established a powerful connection with their fast growing fan-base, and are gaining increased recognition for their originality as all their production is done LIVE in real time, distinguishing them from their contemporaries.

A relentless and energetic live band, WRITTENHOUSE has gained an immense amount of attention, as they are truly a live hip-hop act. The band consists of an emcee, Charlie K, and two producers, Kush Shalimar and Chris Conway.

As an emcee, Charlie K’s soulful and rich vocal tones energize the crowd and his stage presence translates to an energy that leaves fans enthralled, constantly wanting more. His clarity and cadence captures the ears of the audience and doesn’t let go until the set is over. As a lyricist, Charlie K has content that resonates with hip-hop enthusiasts and aficionados as the genuine article; an artist who isn’t afraid to give the audience a piece of himself. Producers Kush Shalimar and Chris Conway provide the sonic ammunition for Charlie K in real time with an array of sound modules, keyboards, drum machines, and various assorted percussion instruments in real time, which is a break from the traditional approach of simply playing CD tracks via a DJ. Continuing to push the envelope of creativity, crowds are often amazed to watch Kush and Chris perform a live drum solo using a sound module and a drum machine, feeding of each other’s creative energy. Their talent also allows for cross-genre production as they can transition from hip-hop to new wave to house to electronica back to hip-hop, live in real time.

The combination of talents is most certainly a tour de force, which culminates in a unique and distinctive live set. Fans become part of the show as the crowd’s vocals are sampled and then crafted into a beat, live on the spot. Add-in a Charlie K freestyle over the newly crafted beat, and what audiences are left with a unique musical experience. This level of crowd interplay and interaction knows no limitations as it can be done at an intimate bar or at a massive outdoor arena.

No strangers to the Philadelphia underground hip-hop scene, Charlie K, Kush Shalimar and Chris Conway have each been actively making music since 2000, and have Charlie K has worked extensively with each producer on various records going back to 2002. As a band WRITTENHOUSE burst onto the scene in 2007 and have collectively been able to capitalize on their individual name recognition.
